Years ago, the Cold Cut Bulletin not only contained detailed listings of everything Cold Cut has in stock, it also contained reviews of up and coming independent comics from a retail perspective. Unfortunately, we no longer have the time to devote to reviewing comics in the in-depth manner of our printed Bulletin. Instead, we have mini-reviews every week on our Weekly Updates. This allows us to provide you with more current information on a more rapid basis than our occasional printed catalog.

However, our older reviews are still well worth reading. Many of the series reviewed are still running and the reviews here might help you decide what to carry. At last count, Thieves & Kings had four trade paperback collections out -- and we reviewed it when issue 2 had just come out.

Each review features a page or two of interior art, and detailed reviews of the book's storyline, the writing, the art, and (most important to many retailers) the audience. We give insights into what a book is about and what type of readers will enjoy it, as well as give lists of similar books whose fans may want to seek out this book.

The Cold Cut Spotlights feature everything from small-press books few have even heard of (like Under Terra) to big hit books from established creators (like Tyrant).

The reviews found on this site are the set of reviews from past Bulletins, without some of the art samples originally included (some of them we weren't able to scan in with any decent resolution). Take a look at some of these books and see what you think...

The Cold Cut Spotlights

The Bulletin number and date from which the review is taken follows each reviewed book's name. The review was written in the month it was published, so each review takes into account only those issues that had been published at that time (for instance, the fact that Wandering Star later moved to Sirius was not known back when we reviewed it in January 1995).

Books which are followed by a little yellow ball: have art samples with the reviews (scanned in panels or pages).
